Quotes for the Journey

“A very wise quote is a spectacular waterfall! When you see it, you feel its power!”
– Mehmet Murat ildan

Who doesn’t love quotes, especially when you find just the right one? Quotes can offer comfort, direction and most of all, inspiration. Quotes selected here are gathered primarily for adults who work with young people in various capacities, which also includes parents. (Parents are youth workers, too!) My hope is that “Quotes for the Journey” will do just that and be of use to you and your work, also.

I’ve been collecting quotes since the late 1970’s. I’ve even had quote sharing sessions with clients who have told me more than once that a particular quote, discovered at just the right moment, helped them to make better and safer decisions in their lives. Unless otherwise attributed, the selections gathered here were compiled by me. One notable exception are quotes that were gathered by a good friend of mine, Gretchen Baker-Smith, who maintains a practice of gathering quotes to support retreat themes that her staff then uses to help them consider their topics more deeply.

“Does God keep you up at night?” is a quote that lead me to seminary many years ago. “Children don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care,” has guided my professional work for decades. And “bloom where you’re planted” has kept me rooted in this work, and writing and sharing everything on this site. Enjoy the quotes below:
